WALK OF FAME CEREMONY
The Miami Dolphins Walk of Fame was established in 2011 to recognise former players who made a significant contribution to team history. Prior to the recent game versus Buffalo at Hard Rock Stadium, the six members of the 2018 class – John Offerdahl, Dick Anderson, Jason Taylor, Mark Clayton, Mark Duper and Jon Giesler – were honoured at Joe Robbie Alumni Plaza, and Dol-Fan UK were invited to be at the ceremony.
Friends and Family joined former Alumni to witness the unveiling of the ‘Star’ for each Inductee, in a short ceremony hosted by Jimmy Cefalo. Unlike the Alumni Party the previous evening, the Dolphin greats were not required to provide a speech, this time relaxing and enjoying being in the spotlight.
When the official photographs were being taken in front of the Joe Robbie statue, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross as well as Vice President and Chairman, Tom Garfunkel, appeared to offer their congratulations, and they were joined by Hall of Famers Dan Marino, Bob Griese, and Larry Little as well as former Running Back greats Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris amongst others.
When the ceremony concluded, members of the press, including Dol-Fan UK, were invited to chat with the newest members of the Walk of Fame. When Mark ‘Super’ Duper was asked what this honour meant to him and his Dolphins legacy he said, “I owe a lot to the Miami Dolphins organisation as I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them drafting me. I would like to think I’m in for playing football but also for doing stuff in the community, a lot of charity work, and doing a lot of things helping people get back on their feet.”
Jason Taylor, wearing his gold Hall of Fame jacket, spent a bit of time talking about current Running Back, Frank Gore: “He’s a great dude number one, the guy’s a beast!” Jason was asked whether he thought Gore would eventually wear one of those jackets and replied “No doubt. Frank should definitely get in, I don’t think there is any question.”
The ceremonial party then departed, with Taylor in particular being mobbed by many of the fans who had gathered to watch their heroes being rightfully honoured.
